FAQs

What should I expect during my first session?

Your first session will be filling the therapist in on some of the reasons you are pursuing talk therapy: reoccurring thoughts and feelings; dynamics with your partner, family, or children; your experience with anxiety or depression; wanting to process traumatic events from the past; or just wanting to start fresh and create new patterns. It can feel overwhelming to fill in a new therapist on your life story, which is why we are happy to hear bits and pieces as you feel comfortable sharing, with no sense of pressure on divulging the whole story right away.

How do you accept payment?

If you have insurance, we will take down your policy ID number and verify your benefits before our first session, to help you avoid any surprise costs, as well as saving a card on file for copays/deductibles. If you need us to run your card on a specific date or during specific intervals, we are happy to reasonably accommodate.

Do I have to meet every week, or can it be less often?

While weekly sessions are recommended if you are brand new to therapy—mainly to get into a new habit of being more open and self-connected—sometimes schedules don’t allow that frequency. Many clients meet every other week, and they are able to do great work in therapy at that frequency. Anything below that frequency isn’t recommended in order to reach goals in therapy in a timely manner.

What if I don’t know what to talk about?

Every client experiences this at one point or another. Fortunately, we are skilled and experienced conversationalists! Your therapist is happy to lead the conversation when you are feeling a bit wordless, with the expectation that you continue to be self-motivated to work in therapy. It can take some time to connect with oneself internally, and get in touch with more subtle emotions and beliefs, and your therapist will be your patient guide.

What if I sign up for in-person, but I need to switch to Telehealth?

Any client is welcome to switch between in-person and Telehealth as needed. For Telehealth clients, we just ask that you are sitting still with minimal camera movement, that the connection is as strong as possible, and the audio is as clear as possible.

Will you meet with my significant other/family member/friend if need be?

We are happy to have joint sessions with anyone who is important to you, provided you will be present during the session. Sessions with loved ones can be very healing and validating.
